New York magazine digs deep into the dirt in front of 740 Park today to uncover what lies buried in the imagination of a plumber. Alas, neither the unpublished photographic evidence here, here, here and here, nor the testimony of their eyewitness, who did work beneath 740’s doormat, does much to advance the magazine’s thesis of a secret train siding for the building’s plutocratic occupants. But then, one man’s abandoned coal bin is another man’s Intelligencer item!
