It’s a supermodel moment…again, and tomorrow’s New York Post gives hat tips both to my 1995 book Model and Model Model, the 1992 profile of Christy Turlington (shown with me a few years back at a Staley-Wise Gallery opening) that caused Veronica Webb to admonish me, Linda Evangelista to call me out as evil, and her then-husband Gerald Marie, the head of Elite Models in Paris to wag his finger in my face at a party and warn me that if I ever wrote about him or Evangelista again, I would never take another step in Paris. Anna Wintour, who hosted that party, noted as I left that I’d “had a moment.” I’ve taken many steps in Paris since. Sara Nathan‘s story reveals some of what the much-discussed new doc on the supermodels leaves out (I haven’t seen it, so I’m reserving comment, though I’m told most of my interview for the documentary was also left out). For some of that, start with that book and that article. Past, as they say, is prologue.
