In “Mayflower Madness,” a story for tomorrow’s New York Post just posted online, I recount my research for Flight of the WASP, and how one wealthy family, the Butlers of Illinois, boasted of an apocryphal link to William the Conqueror and Anne Boleyn, and another, a Morris family of New York, were often incorrectly called descendants of the principal author of the U.S. Constitution, when the source of their fortune was actually a numbers racket in New Orleans.
